Guest Room Mini Makeover

Linnea A.

DSC00945.jpeg

Once self isolation started, I switched homes with my mom (who’s an essential worker) and moved right back into the home I grew up in. My first project? The guest room, decked out with bright blue walls and all. I tried living with it, but I only lasted about a week before deciding I needed to give it a full transformation, with things we had around the house, nonetheless. I’ve documented the mini makeover below!

After

As you can see, PAINT is the hero here. It really does make the room so much bigger and brighter. It makes me happy when I walk into it, and brings a sense of calm during this chaotic time (if there’s one thing I hate about quarantine, it’s not living in my own home!). To be resourceful I used the same furniture, added an accent chair and vintage nightstand from around the house to make the room a little more practical.

I also mounted this wall sconce from Ikea that we had lying around the house, and it suited the room perfectly. To accent the main wall above the bed, I created a DIY canvas with a few neutral colours, and I absolutely love the way it turned out! The TikTok tutorial on how I made it can be found here.

To make this room as “homey” for myself as I could, I needed my diffuser and my favourite essential oils by Vitruvi. Sara Panton’s book Essential Well Being has everything you need to get started with essential oils - you’d be surprised how much you can use them! I love every single page - it’s a must read.

I also painted another DIY to add more contrast to the room. I painted a piece of card stock black, and left white in spots where I wanted the outline of the body to show. I also added in a layered vintage mirror and some necessary skincare to the dresser.

Let me know if you’d like to see more reveals - I’m hoping to complete quite a few more projects if I can in the next few weeks! Take care everyone.

Before & After: Kitchen Transformation

Linnea A.

IMG_4477.JPG

To say that working with Wayfair on this kitchen transformation was a dream… well that’s not saying enough! I’m elated to be working with a company that I love, especially when they can help me share tips on how to improve your home.

Now it’s no secret that this (mortgage-paying-night-student) girl is on a budget, so a renovation is not anywhere in my near future. Because of that, I wanted to make a few small updates to my kitchen that were economical, yet made a big impact. And with just a few additions, I was able to make that happen. Check out the full transformation below to see how you, too, can update your kitchen without breaking the bank!

Before

It’s not that I didn’t love my kitchen before, but I knew I wanted to make use of the blank wall with some shelves, and potentially play with a little bit of black.

After

To make these updates, I did three things. I switched out the kitchen faucet, kitchen hardware, and installed floating shelves. Let’s just ignore my different sized bulbs for now… the new one is arriving soon lol!

IMG_4472.JPG

Kitchen Faucet

Finished with a matte black coating, this faucet is all that I wished for and more. Not only does it look pretty, but it’s just as functional as my old one, with a pull down hose and sprayer (super important)! It’s incredible how much a faucet can change an entire kitchen.

IMG_4468.JPG

Kitchen Hardware

To tie in with the faucet, I introduced matte black hardware on the cabinets. The old hardware was dated and wearing out anyway, so it was time for a change! The cabinets are a lot easier to open now, too!

Floating Shelves

And the moment we’ve all been waiting for… the shelves!! I knew I wanted floating wooden shelves for a very long time, but they had to be the right measurements, and I wanted to ensure that they came with hardware that would support a few decor pieces to have on display. Luckily, I found a shelf on Wayfair that had my exact measurements I was looking for, so I got two, and they give the perfect amount of warm and rustic to my bright, white space. I love displaying some of my Farmor’s heirlooms on the shelves, including a vintage canister meant for flour. It originally belonged to my Grandpa’s Grandma… so it dates way back, and it’s extra special to me. Other items you can put on display include greenery, glassware, candles, cutting boards and storage jars, to name a few!

And with that, I hope you’re fully inspired to make a few small tweaks to your kitchen (especially with the things you don’t love about it), because at the end of the day, the more you love your kitchen, the more time you’ll spend cooking in it! Fall Living Room Tour

Linnea A.

IMG_3295.JPG

If you follow me on Instagram (which you should be, if you’re not ;), chances are, you’ve seen photos of my living room. It’s my favourite space to photograph in my home, and when Dash is posing oh-so-nicely on the couch, how can I NOT take a photo? He’s basically begging me to. So you’ve likely already seen snippets of the room on my feed, but I’ve put off this before-and-after living room tour for far too long. Enough hiding this space from you - here it is in all its glory! And while Fall is still here, I hope you take some inspiration from some of the fall touches I’ve made. But you've been warned… the space will transform for the holidays in no time! Let’s take a peek inside while it’s still fall, shall we?

Before

As you can see in the photos, this room was large and in charge, but the original paint colour didn’t do it justice. So I needed to paint the walls before I even moved in, and it made all the difference!

Next, I needed to plan out the space. What was the best way to arrange all of my furniture? Remember, I did have to downsize coming from my previous apartment, so I no longer had a “dining” space (nor did I really need one). So I decided to make two spaces: one for lounging, with my shelves in the background, and one for working, and displaying all the things I would in my office-I-no-longer-had.

Before & After: My Bedroom

Linnea A.

IMG_2571.JPG

I took a little break from sharing the spaces in my home because I always feel like my spaces are never fully "complete", so I keep putting these posts off, but today, I'm doing it anyway, back at it with my bedroom! My goal for this room was to take advantage of the big window, paint the walls white so the room was as bright as possible, and keep my decor and furniture minimal. I wanted a relaxing oasis, without having to purchase a whole bunch of new furniture.

The Before

edba14c487e93fe51de5ebbc31948c4a88c39e9f.jpg

The paint colour says it all - really made the room feel smaller than it was. And those curtains... I can't!! A touch of paint and a little bit more style goes a long, long way.

The Inspiration

wff.jpg

I take inspiration from other decor bloggers, influencers, and designers that share their masterpieces on Instagram. Personally, I find Instagram to be the most relevant, real-time resource for inspiration, because Pinterest is a little too dated for me. Maybe it's the boards I'm following, but I don't seem to get as inspired on Pinterest as I do when I'm scrolling through Instagram! Also, I loooove to save photos to different collections on Instagram - I've basically made it my new Pinterest. I save everything from wish list items to decor inspo, travel hot spots to photo and outfit inspo, and more. You'd be shocked at how many collections I have on there!

The After

Once I painted the room and placed my furniture how I wanted it, it made all the difference. This room is a little smaller than my last one; I didn't have room for my dresser, so I utilized storage space under my bed for items I don't use all the time, and transformed part of my closet into pull out drawers for things like socks and all that jazz. #Condoliving at its finest, y'all.

IMG_2572.JPG
IMG_2575.JPG
IMG_2569.JPG

I also fully utilized my second closet in the room for my jewelry, bags, accessories, heels, and shoes that I don't wear on a day-to-day basis.

IMG_2568.JPG
IMG_2574.JPG

Lastly, my obsession with hats and bags took on a whole new level, and I had a blank wall beside my bed. So what did I do? Looked to my command hooks, of course! Yes, you better believe I put zero holes in my wall for this. They're all held up with command strips!

IMG_2563.JPG

I'd still say my bedroom is a work in progress, but I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out. Things that are still on my wish list include... a big print above my bed, a nice jute rug, sconces, and a blanket ladder. Help a girl out if you know where to find a light, beachy wood ladder!
