H&M Home Favourites

Linnea A.

DSC04339.JPG

Hey lovelies, it’s been a minute. Today I’m bringing the blogging back with some of my favourite H&M Home finds. I’ve loved H&M ever since I discovered it in Sweden before it’s arrival in North America (a VERY long time ago), and their home items kill it every season, no fail. These items do sell out very very fast, so if you see something you like, you better make that purchase asap (or set up notifications for when it comes back in stock)! I’m sharing some of my faves from their current collection, but be warned, some of it may already be sold out. Happy shopping!

2020 Holiday Home Tour

Linnea A.

DSC02017.jpeg

The wait is over… welcome to my 2020 Nordic holiday oasis. You’re probably familiar with my 2019 and 2018 holiday home tours, so I obviously have to keep the tradition alive! As a decor lover who’s been collecting ornaments and holiday items for almost ten years, the holidays are usually a time where I go all out with my decorations, and this time around is no different.

DSC02021.jpeg

This year, I went with neutral, Nordic-inspired decor from Gluckstein Home, with pops of brown, gold, silver and warm wood tones throughout. My pre-lit flocked tree pretty much speaks for itself, but I’m sharing some of my best tips and tricks for decorating below! And I must say… it is soooo pretty when it’s lit!

DSC02041.jpeg

Choose a few cohesive theme colours

It’s important to stick to a few solid colours to lay the groundwork for your theme, and accentuate those colours with your neutrals and greenery with the rest of your decor.

Add a neutral garland

Last year, I created my own DIY wooden bead garland, and it’s been my favourite garland to date. It’s subtle enough that it doesn’t distract from the ornaments, yet the tones of the wood pop perfectly against my flocked tree. Highly recommend making one yourself!

DSC02028.jpeg
DSC02018.jpeg

Mix up your ornaments

It’s also a good idea to mix up your ornaments! I always buy at least two to three special ornaments a year. That way, my tree is a little different every year, but it has meaningful keepsakes scattered throughout. I also like to mix up the textures of the ornaments. Feel free to mix metallics, pearls, mattes and sparkly ornaments.

This sitting dear paired with this Nordic snow globe makes me smile every time I see it! They’re sitting pretty in my buffet cabinet, and the lights from the tree make them sparkle even more.

It wouldn’t be the holidays at Linnea’s without a holiday village! I no longer have my console table where I used to style the village, so this year, I decided to take it to my floating shelves, and I love the result.

However you’re decorating this year, I hope you find these tips useful. There are so many beautiful decor options to choose from right here in Canada, so always take a look locally first!

October Inspo & Catch-Up

Linnea A.

IMG_1918.png

October, I’ve missed you! I feel like October is generally a good month - it’s officially Fall, new routines are in place, and pretty much everyone is in a good mood. I’m looking forward to working with another design client, getting back into the swing of things after a few road trips, and simplifying my home a little bit this fall. I just came back from a fall girls trip, so I’m feeling inspired, refreshed, and just so appreciative of the life I have. One thing I kept saying during the trip, in awe of the beauty of it all, was,

“if this isn’t living, I don’t know what is.”

If this is what life looks like, I’m pretty damn lucky, and it’s not to be taken for granted. To have as many loving, supportive friends by my side, experiencing so many of life’s joys at the same time - it’s pretty incredible. Lately, I’ve been drawn to warmer tones, crisp fall flavours, new routines, more DIY projects, and trying new things. I wish you the best month ahead - happy almost Thanksgiving!

Dining Room Reveal

Linnea A.

DSC01779.jpeg

After years without having a proper dining area, I decided that it was about time to introduce one to my space - and I’m so happy I did! When I originally moved into my condo, I brought all the furniture I had from my previous condo, so my office furniture ended up in my main living space. It worked, for a little while, but I got bored of it pretty quickly, and I felt like I was wasting a ton of valuable space. I haven’t really shown much of my “process” to you guys before, so I thought I would share the before and after, and how the full design came to life.

DSC01774.jpeg

The table…

I started by gathering dining room inspiration in this post, and after months of searching, I finally found the marble pedestal table of my dreams… on Facebook Marketplace of all places (I know, I’m sorry guys, but I’ve linked similar ones below)! Once I found it, everything fell into place. I lowered my light fixture, selected chairs, a wall cabinet, frames for a gallery wall, and sold everything in my space that no longer served me or suited the room.

DSC01745.jpeg

The chairs…

I was going back and forth between a few different dining chairs, but in the end, I chose Wishbone Chairs from Eternity Modern, made of Natural Solid Ash. They’re classic, they suit the tones of the table, they’re comfortable, and they’re a timeless Scandinavian design by Hans Wegner.

23AE0977-AA40-4B9F-9CC3-29134613E8DC.jpeg
DSC01782.jpeg

To be honest, when they arrived, I wasn’t quite sure about them. They stuck out from the table a little more than I had hoped (because the arms hit the table), so to solve my problem, I did a little DIY hack. I got a piece of plywood cut to size at RONA, and placed it under my marble tabletop to raise the table by 3/4”. Once I did that, the chairs were absolutely perfect. They tucked under the table exactly how I envisioned them, and now I’m completely obsessed!

DSC01770.jpeg

The gallery wall…

For the gallery wall, I purchased Ikea Hovsta frames, which I intended on customizing with new mats to fit 4x6 photos. Instead, I took the clever advice of my friend Madison (@madisonandsuch), and placed my 4x6 travel photos in InDesign, added a drop shadow, and printed 12x16 photos to fill the entire frame. Madison, you’re a genius!!!!

I sold my bookshelf to make room for the Billy Oxberg Cabinet to act as my buffet for all of my entertaining needs. Originally, I was thinking of purchasing this jute rug for the dining area, but there simply wasn’t enough space for two rugs in my space, and I’m happy with it as-is. And that, my friends, is my new dining area. I hope you enjoy the tour!

Summer Bedroom Refresh

Linnea A.

DSC01694.jpeg

As I spend more time at home, I’m getting more use out of the things around my home, and I’m loving it more and more everyday. I’m finding so much joy in the little things, and in order to combat stress from my crazy schedule, self care and ample time for rest have been key.

If you’re looking to make an investment in both your home and your self care, bedding is the perfect place to start. There’s something so refreshing about jumping into a bed of beautiful clean sheets - made of fabrics you know will stand the test of time. If you’re anything like me, updating your bedding is an instant mood booster, and does wonders for your dreamy slumber, too!

DSC01653.jpeg

I recently updated my bedding for a summer refresh in my bedroom, and I’ve been loving my new sheets! For my duvet, I chose the GlucksteinHome Davenport Duvet Cover in white (a literal cloud), paired with the GlucksteinHome Davenport Sheet Set in white. To add some neutral texture to my bedroom, I wanted something cozy and luxe. I opted for the GlucksteinHome Knit Cotton Blanket in Beige, and it’s hands down, one of my favourite blankets I’ve ever owned! It’s effortless, casual, yet oh so cozy. I’m very much looking forward to using it throughout the fall and winter! Here’s a peek into my bedroom, new bedding and all.

Guest Room Mini Makeover

Linnea A.

DSC00945.jpeg

Once self isolation started, I switched homes with my mom (who’s an essential worker) and moved right back into the home I grew up in. My first project? The guest room, decked out with bright blue walls and all. I tried living with it, but I only lasted about a week before deciding I needed to give it a full transformation, with things we had around the house, nonetheless. I’ve documented the mini makeover below!

Before

Adjustments.jpeg

After

As you can see, PAINT is the hero here. It really does make the room so much bigger and brighter. It makes me happy when I walk into it, and brings a sense of calm during this chaotic time (if there’s one thing I hate about quarantine, it’s not living in my own home!). To be resourceful I used the same furniture, added an accent chair and vintage nightstand from around the house to make the room a little more practical.

1AFFE86B-7A56-44E0-BF0B-84DE91F5E3C5.jpeg
DSC00948.jpeg

I also mounted this wall sconce from Ikea that we had lying around the house, and it suited the room perfectly. To accent the main wall above the bed, I created a DIY canvas with a few neutral colours, and I absolutely love the way it turned out! The TikTok tutorial on how I made it can be found here.

DSC00966.jpeg
DSC01065.jpeg

To make this room as “homey” for myself as I could, I needed my diffuser and my favourite essential oils by Vitruvi. Sara Panton’s book Essential Well Being has everything you need to get started with essential oils - you’d be surprised how much you can use them! I love every single page - it’s a must read.

DSC00973.jpeg
Facetune_26-04-2020-09-16-00.jpeg

I also painted another DIY to add more contrast to the room. I painted a piece of card stock black, and left white in spots where I wanted the outline of the body to show. I also added in a layered vintage mirror and some necessary skincare to the dresser.

DSC01121.jpeg
DSC01140.jpeg

Let me know if you’d like to see more reveals - I’m hoping to complete quite a few more projects if I can in the next few weeks! Take care everyone.

Leanne Ford x Crate & Barrel Favourites

Linnea A.

cb_dLP_20200206_LF_Decor_v2.png

Word on the street is… Leanne Ford has a new collection with Crate & Barrel! I actually met and toured one of her best friend’s houses a few months ago… and the inspo I got from seeing that one house - just wow. This woman is a powerhouse! The collection embodies her signature neutral colour palette (who doesn’t love neutral?!), thick, bold shapes, cane, and curves - oh so many curves! I love pretty much every single piece, but I thought I’d share my top favourites, to help you narrow it down. Get your shopping cart ready, there’s a bunch of gems in this collection!

cb_dLP_20200206_LF_LivingRoom_wNotch.png

“Whether it’s a vase, or a pillow, or a candle, or a basket...it has to have interest and soul. It should look like it could tell a good story. And the lines are important—I like simple things with a sense of proportion, yet slightly off-balance. I also really want to make sure pieces have the right mix of beauty and purposefulness.” - Leanne Ford

Dining Room Goals

In 2020, I’m finally planning on introducing a dining area into my space… I think that means I’m growing up! I’m not looking to make any huge changes, but I do want to be confident with my dining table and chair choice - I don’t want to regret them 2 years down the road like I have with so many things before. For now, here’s some of the inspiration I’m looking at for my space. I’m leaning toward a round table because I like the look of curves, and it will fit more organically in my space. Here are my fave swoon-worthy dining spaces, and the trends that come with them.

Tips for Decluttering Your Home

Linnea A.

IMG_1595.jpeg

There’s no time like the present (or a month like January) to declutter your home for a fresh start. Unless you declutter year-round, your space is probably in need of some organization with a dash of minimalism. For those of you who aren’t so much into getting rid of your possessions or things, I can’t stress enough how important it is to edit your space consistently throughout the year. I could go on and on about the benefits of decluttering, but here are my top 3:

It declutters your brain

Decluttering helps you see your space clearly, both physically and mentally. A clear house means a clear brain, so if you’re feeling like a mental detox, try giving your space a refresh or getting rid of a few items, and you’ll be surprised at how much lighter you feel.

It reminds you of what you have

Going through your things gives you an inventory of what you have on hand, what’s out-of-date, and what you actually need (there’s nothing worse than buying double of something because you didn’t know you already had it)! It also keeps things in order, and maintains “having a place for everything”, which we’ll get into later!

It gives you the opportunity to truly love the items you have

Even though you’re giving away/donating items, decluttering makes you appreciate the things you really love in your home that much more. For the things you don’t love anymore, it’s time to donate them to a thrift store or charity, for someone else to love. To get there, below are my top tips for tackling the beast that is decluttering your home.

IMG_1599.jpeg

Start with something small

To prevent intimidation and discouragement from that pile of junk hiding in your closet, start small. This could be the junk drawer in your kitchen, or maybe the cupboard under your kitchen sink that has way too many cleaning products to count. Starting your decluttering journey with a small “15 minute win,” as Shira Gill calls it, will give you instant satisfaction with that area, and will encourage you to continue these wins in other spaces. To do this, take a “before” photo of your space, take 15 minutes to organize it, and take an “after” photo of the result. The results will shock you! Something that tends to pile up for me? Reusable bags! I always seem to have way more than I need, so I constantly give them away to reduce the clutter.

Whatever you choose to declutter first, go through each item, ask yourself how often you use it, and if you really need it or love it.

17DF3F45-C719-4688-9AF0-4672836A4AD5.jpeg

Sort into categories

If you’re decluttering your kitchen, take everything out and sort it into categories. There’s no reason for some pots to be in one area, and other pots to be in another. Divide your items into categories to see what you have too many of, then figure out the best way to organize the volume of each category you have. Baskets, lid racks, jars, air tight containers and label makers are your best friends here.

Clean as you go

If you’re already removing everything from a certain area, it’s an opportune time to clean! Deep clean the space, and develop a plan of attack before you put everything back by using baskets, trays or dividers (with labels) to keep similar items organized together and easy to find. Every single item should have a home, so you don’t need to think twice about where it is.

IMG_1598.jpeg

Time for the bigger picture

When you move on to bigger spaces, look at the bigger picture. What’s bothering you about that space? What will make your life easier? Is there a certain area you avoid because you’re not happy with it? Here are items to think about when decluttering:

  • Extra furniture pieces that don’t necessarily fit in your space

  • Home decor items you no longer love/have too many of

  • Extra kitchen gadgets/appliances

  • Old clothes

  • Shoes you forgot you had

  • Old sheets and towels

  • Expired goods

Maybe it’s time to get rid of them, to make room for an item that does, or to clear the space entirely. Take time to ask yourself how much you love each piece, and go from there.

Sell the items you no longer love

Now, you may be asking yourself, how do I get rid of these items? Well, start with your high value items. List them for sale on local buy and sells like Facebook Marketplace, Poshmark, or consignment stores (if they offer you a decent amount). People are constantly searching sites for items just like yours (it’s the sustainable way to shop!) so you may as well get some money back and contribute to the recycle culture. If they won’t sell, ask around if anyone wants them, or drop them off to a thrift store like Value Village or Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

LRG_DSC05734.jpeg

If you buy something new, sell something first

With my textbooks, the only way I buy used ones is if I sell my old ones. The same rule should apply to the rest of your home. If you have enough clothing, sell or donate something before you add something new to your closet. If you’re looking to buy a new rug, sell your old one, then use that money to buy a new/pre-loved one. I’ll actually be doing this soon (let me know if you’re interested in my rug)! You’ll house items you love, save money, and sell someone else something they love—a win win situation!

Facetune_17-01-2020-21-52-48.jpeg

Give yourself a deadline

Despite how long the process may take, don’t get sidetracked by going through photo albums or getting lost in a book. Set timers for each room, and give yourself a deadline so you can race yourself and make it a little more fun. And don’t think you have to do it all at once. Using each day of the week for each room is a realistic approach and gives you a little break in between.

If you have any other decluttering tips, feel free to share them below! Looking forward to making some swap outs in my space this year, and selling items as I go!

How to Transform your Patio to an Outdoor Oasis

Linnea A.

public.jpeg

Now that I’ve been home for more than a week, I’ve finally had a little bit of time to enjoy my patio! But if you know me, you know I wouldn’t fully enjoy it unless I made a few updates to my decor this year. Thanks to the help of H&M Home, I’m thoroughly enjoying my patio, one sip of vino at a time. Without further ado, here are a few tips on how to transform your patio into a new-found paradise.

public.jpeg
public.jpeg

Patio lights

I had some lights last season, but they were solar powered and cheap - not ideal for outdoor situations! I recently added some heavy duty LED lights, and they happened to be the perfect length for the perimeter of my patio railing. I don’t turn them on all the time, but when I do, the whole ambiance of the patio is immediately transformed.

public.jpeg
public.jpeg

Throw blankets and cushions

Summers in Vancouver are brief, but magical! Although we have steady temperatures during the day, they do tend to get a little chilly once the sun goes down. That’s where throw blankets come to the rescue! As long as it’s not raining, I’m happy to chill outside with a blanket until I absolutely have to get ready for bed. I’ve been loving my Cotton Throw and Cushion Covers - it’s casual and breathable, but super comfortable and cozy.

public.jpeg

Lanterns

I have a few lanterns scattered throughout my patio, but my latest additions are adding such a nice modern touch. You can put standard tealights inside, or kick it up a notch and place a full-on candle inside. The glow of the candles adds to the ambiance of the space, especially with the patio lights turned on!

public.jpeg

Plants

It wouldn’t be an outdoor oasis without greenery, now would it? I recently added a few ceramic planters and a mini herb garden in my planters, which includes basil, oregano, mint and herbed lavender. In addition, I just purchased an English lavender plant, and now my patio smells divine.

public.jpeg

Trays

To entertain outside, trays (like this wooden one) make everything easier. Not only do they look cute when you style them with plants, drinks or accessories, but their effective, too! When you’re serving drinks outside, it’s easy to pass drinks and snacks along when you’re serving tray-side.

public.jpeg

SHOP THE POST

After all is said and done, I’m pretty proud of this space, and happy I’m able to enjoy it this summer (sans school)! What changes are you hoping to make on your patio? Let me know in the comments below.

Oh, hello friends! It’s been a minute... and I’ve gotta say, between school, work, homework and workouts (with a few gatherings sprinkled in), the burnout has been REAL! The reality is, I wake up, workout (if I can’t in the evening), go to work, then head to school, and come home basically just to sleep... then rinse and repeat!! So it’s safe to say I barely have any energy these days. I’m trying to keep up, but I’m not gonna lie... the 14-16 hour days and tedious homework have been eating up a lot of my energy. Nevertheless, there are a few things keeping me sane these days, including fresh blooms and some new additions to my vanity! From decor to skincare, candles and everything in between, these are my current obsessions. Hope you enjoy!

To say that working with Wayfair on this kitchen transformation was a dream… well that’s not saying enough! I’m elated to be working with a company that I love, especially when they can help me share tips on how to improve your home.

Now it’s no secret that this (mortgage-paying-night-student) girl is on a budget, so a renovation is not anywhere in my near future. Because of that, I wanted to make a few small updates to my kitchen that were economical, yet made a big impact. And with just a few additions, I was able to make that happen. Check out the full transformation below to see how you, too, can update your kitchen without breaking the bank!

Before

It’s not that I didn’t love my kitchen before, but I knew I wanted to make use of the blank wall with some shelves, and potentially play with a little bit of black.

After

To make these updates, I did three things. I switched out the kitchen faucet, kitchen hardware, and installed floating shelves. Let’s just ignore my different sized bulbs for now… the new one is arriving soon lol!

Kitchen Faucet

Finished with a matte black coating, this faucet is all that I wished for and more. Not only does it look pretty, but it’s just as functional as my old one, with a pull down hose and sprayer (super important)! It’s incredible how much a faucet can change an entire kitchen.

Kitchen Hardware

To tie in with the faucet, I introduced matte black hardware on the cabinets. The old hardware was dated and wearing out anyway, so it was time for a change! The cabinets are a lot easier to open now, too!

Floating Shelves

And the moment we’ve all been waiting for… the shelves!! I knew I wanted floating wooden shelves for a very long time, but they had to be the right measurements, and I wanted to ensure that they came with hardware that would support a few decor pieces to have on display. Luckily, I found a shelf on Wayfair that had my exact measurements I was looking for, so I got two, and they give the perfect amount of warm and rustic to my bright, white space. I love displaying some of my Farmor’s heirlooms on the shelves, including a vintage canister meant for flour. It originally belonged to my Grandpa’s Grandma… so it dates way back, and it’s extra special to me. Other items you can put on display include greenery, glassware, candles, cutting boards and storage jars, to name a few!

And with that, I hope you’re fully inspired to make a few small tweaks to your kitchen (especially with the things you don’t love about it), because at the end of the day, the more you love your kitchen, the more time you’ll spend cooking in it! Dining with Fable

Although there are a ton of beautifully hand crafted plates on the market, hardly any of them are affordable - especially when you're supporting a small business. And once you grow out of your “Ikea-everything-phase”, it can be a little daunting figuring out where to go for your “adult” flatware and dinnerware without breaking the bank... they truly are your gateway to adulting! Enter: Fable.

IMG_1715.JPG

Founded because they, too, had trouble finding accessible flatware and dinnerware, Fable’s mission is to help create more meaningful moments at the dinner table - and bring the joy of shared meals to everyone while doing so. So when you make a purchase from Fable, they pay it forward by providing a meal to someone in need. How cool is that?!

IMG_1717.JPG

Based here in Vancouver, Fable launched earlier this year, and I was lucky enough to get my hands on their beautiful dinner and side plates.

Made of a strong porcelain, each piece is fired twice, featuring a flat surface and low rim edge for easy stacking (perfect for those with minimal storage space)! The plates are finished with a beautiful matte glaze, which makes them ideal for any occasion.

Available in speckled white or black, these plates are both microwave and dishwasher safe (hallelujah)! And if you’re in Vancouver, the shipping is free (or they can arrange for local pick up/drop off). It doesn’t get anymore convenient than that!

If you love these plates as much as I do, I highly recommend giving them a shot. And lucky for you, I have a promo code for you to use! Use my link and code LINNEA10OFF for 10% off your entire order!

Now what are you waiting for... go get your new dinnerware!

Spring Bedroom Linens

Now that the sun is rising a little earlier, the birds are chirping, and hallelujah, it’s finally starting to be bright out as I’m getting up, it’s about time I make a few spring updates in the bedroom. And where do I get my bedding of choice? You may not believe me, but it’s H&M Home! Now I know we don’t have any stores here on the west coast to see their products in person, but their stuff is seriously such high quality, especially for the price. I had the pleasure of visiting various locations across Europe last fall, and I’m still shopping online for more - it’s just that good (and for a Swedish girl who loves Scandi style… hello, it’s a no brainer)! I’ve been purchasing my textiles from H&M Home for a while now, because I love being able to just purchase cushion covers that I can switch out seasonally (using these Down Pillow Inserts), rather than purchasing new pillows every season. It’s a money saver aaaand a huge space saver, too!

My first purchase from H&M Home was my Washed Linen Duvet Cover, and it’s hands down my favourite duvet I’ve ever owned. To pair with it, I wanted to add a few fresh pieces. For starters, new cushion covers for my throw pillows! Pom poms have always been a quirky detail that I love, especially when they’re neutral. These Pom Pillow Covers give me all the Bali vibes I ever need (Kim Soo probably sells something similar), so I can dream about being there all over again.

Next, I wanted a bedspread that made a statement at the foot of the bed. I opted for this beautiful Cotton Muslin Bedspread, and the texture balances the soft whites so nicely.

Finally, to add little glimpses of spring, I wanted to bring in some soft texture for my plants, along with fresh scents. I found this beautiful  Stoneware Plant Pot for my bedside table to sit beside one of my favourite scents - Sandalwood!

H&M is coming out with a lot more for spring - I’d love to know what you’ve got your eye on from their new collection! Enjoy your spring decorating :)
